President's Annual Report 2009

Your Society was successful in demonstrating to the Canadian Museum Association that we have a family friendly, interactive historical museum.  As a result, Kellogg’s has included the Cannington Historical Museum in its Adventure Pass promotion.  Look for these specially labelled boxes of cereal.  Upon redemption, our Museum is offering, by appointment, specialty themed tours, one for each of the buildings.

Also, we are offering ½ price admission to the Q&C Show with the Adventure Pass. Kim and Ted were judges at the Historia Fair held at McCaskill’s Mills Public School, March 25.  The presentations were excellent and it is encouraging that there is an interest in history.  This summer, our feature display in the Derryville Hall will be models of log cabins / pioneer village buildings that were designed and built by the Grade 3’s.

The Society will have a booth at the McCaskill’s Mills Family Wellness Night, May 6.  This is an opportunity to show and tell about our Museum and the importance of local history.  Trevor is the lead on developing a visual walking tour of Cannington, “Then and Now!”  It will also be on our Web site.

Orma and Ted are developing the Cannington part of Brock High School’s Wall of Remembrance.  It will be a display just inside the main entrance, to commemorate those who have served this country militarily.  The “honour Rolls” from the neighbourhoods of Sunderland, Beaverton and Cannington will be etched in stone plaques.  On canvas, will be 15 portraits of selected individuals.  A scroll will list all those who have served from Brock Township.  We will have this display ready for the November 11th service.

September 4th and 5th are Cannington Days at the CNE.  Your group of costumed interpreters will be there to show an aspect of rural Ontario “village life” in the 1880’s.  The CHS display will include the buggy and an early tractor.
